Phom leaders resolve to revamp morung edu, form peace committee

Longleng, November 27 (MExN): ‘Grassroots Resurgence cum Federal Assembly’ of Phom Students’ Conference (PSC), hosted by Yongshei Students’ Union (YSU), was held from November 23 to 25 at Yongshei Village Council Hall under the theme ‘Grassroots Resurgence’.  

The programme, attended by every Village Council Chairman, VDB Secretary, Citizen Presidents, women leaders, Head GBs and student leaders of Phom community from Auching to Ladhikar, resolved to constitute Village Development Advisory Board in each Phom village; revamp morung education in every village; form peace initiative committee in every village.  

Earlier, resource person of the event, Rev. Dr. Anjo Keikong, Chancellor of North East Christian University while speaking on the topic, “A Visionary Leader”, said that a leader should be well updated with the current situation of the world and have a brighter vision for the future of the society. He/she should have a well planned strategy for the future, he asserted. On the topic, “Village Administration”, he said that the community should get involved rather than wait for the Government to bring a change. Based on the present context, he urged the leaders of every village to be transparent and accountable, a press release stated.  

Phom Baptist Christian Association (PBCA) Executive Secretary, Y. Nuklu Phom in his speech on the topic, “Revamp in Economy and Education” said that every change can begin and develop only from the initial stage. He said that student community of today should initiate in creating an environment which tempts every individual to feel the need for quality education. To bring such reformation, he said, both the Government and the leaders should work hand in hand and strife to attain 100% literacy. On the topic, “Conflict Management”, he said, “for any development and progress, peace is a pre-requisite,” asserting “No development can happen when there is no peace”. He said Nagas and Phoms in particular need to stop dividing oneself into clans and tribes, and come together as one. He added that in the present world of turmoil, peace is very important. Longleng being one of the most peaceful districts in Nagaland should take the initiative of spreading peace, he stated.  

President, Phom Peoples Council, Chingan also exhorted the student leaders to fulfill the dream of the leaders who had founded the organization bearing all the hardship for the generation to come.
