DIMAPUR, JAN 28 (MExN): The Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) vehemently denounced the factional clash between two factions of NSCN in the heart of Longleng Town on January 27, wherein, two women were seriously injured in the cross–fire. “This is not the first incident in which innocent civilians were victimised in the factional clash clash in Longleng. Last year on 21st Jan. a father of four small children was killed by a stray bullet and an old women staying in the proximity of the shoot–out died of stroke following the commotion”, stated a press communiqué issued by P. Shanthong Phom, President of Phom Students Conference, Longleng.
The students’ body stated that both the factions were violating the ceasefire ground rules and the cadres have been moving about the town openly clad in arms and uniform.
The statement further lamented that despite; the efforts of the public to avoid confrontation, the cadre’s actions have disturbed the peace and tranquility of the town once again.
“PSC questions the factions involved if they have some secret agenda to target civilians and use them as sacrificial lambs to draw Centre’s attention because on the eve of every talk with the Centre when clash take place only civilians are victimised in their clash. Incidentally, this time too the clash occurred when the students are preparing to appear for their Board and university examination”, it stated.
The PSC appealed to both the factions not to disturb the peace of mind of the students as they are in the process of preparing for their examinations which is to commence from February 8. “Further, we appeal to them to stay away from the public areas and allow peace to prevail. We will not remain mute spectators for long if our security is continually threatened.” Finally, PSC has wished speedy recovery to the two mothers injured in the shoot–out.
