Phoms celebrate Monyiü festival at Tourism Village Pongo

Longleng, April 2 (MExN): Monyiü, the most important festival of the Phoms, was celebrated at Tourism Village Pongo on April 2 with H. Leisha Phom, President, Phom Peoples’ Council (PPC) as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest dwelled on the importance of preserving culture and tradition in the purest sense. Right after the sowing season is over, Monyiü is celebrated from April 1 to 6 every year to thank God and ask blessing for good harvest, where the family members, friends, in-laws and loved ones are invited and share Monyiü feast.

The chief guest also reminded the people that the right spirit of Monyiü is giving and sharing with the needy people. The chief guest also urged the Government of Nagaland and the Department of Tourism in particular, for infrastructural development at the Tourism Village Pongo.

Matong Angh, Vice President, Phom Students’ Conference; Hamvok Head DB Tamlu; and Khangyong, GB Pongo Village also delivered short speeches. Pongo and Hongnyi Village presented cultural presentation like folk dance and beating of the Log drum respectively.
