KOHIMA, OCTOBER 25 (MExN): A photography exhibition, organized by the Department of Information & Public Relations, was inaugurated by Principal Secretary, Home, Abhijit Sinha at the State Museum, Directorate of Art & Culture, Kohima on October 25. 

Chairing the programme, Additional Secretary, IPR, Asangla Imti stressed on the importance of the programme. She said that the exhibition was organized to observe the National Unity Day on October 31 and is in convergence with the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav for celebrating 75 years of India's Independence.

Special guest, Abhijit Sinha highlighted on the observation of National Unity Day, stating that it is celebrated on October 31 to promote nationalism and a feeling of unity among Indian citizens. The day was first celebrated in 2014 and is observed on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Sinha gave a brief life history of Patel, who was a freedom fighter and became the first Deputy Prime Minister and the Home Minister of India, and the pivotal role played by him in integrating the 565 princely states into the Indian Union. 

Highlighting on the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,’ Sinha said that it is an initiative to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements. The official journey of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' commenced on March 12, which started a 75 week countdown to the 75th anniversary of India’s independence and will end post a year on August 15, 2023, he informed. The programme was attended by DIPR and Art & Culture officials.
