
DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 12 (MExN): Pilgrim Higher Secondary School (PHSS) celebrated its 31st Foundation – Cum – Cultural Day on October 1 under the theme “Celebrating Cultural Diversity Across the Globe.”
The Judges for the day were Joel Ji from South Korea, Mikael Romeo from Italy, Bryan John from Trinidad & Tobago (West Indies) and Gregory Englert from USA.
The Principal of the School, Kaini Khekho Kikon gave a welcome speech by giving a brief history of the school and its founders. She also emphasized the importance of “bringing the world into the class room” to give the students a better world view. In the midst of the rising culturally based conflicts, radicalization and xenophobia, the objective is to promote respect for diversity, understanding and tolerance between people, she stated.
“Diversity of civilization and cultures is a fundamental feature of human society and a driving force of human progress. We cannot have peace if we don’t accept and harness diversity. The goal of sustaining peace and prevention of conflict can only be achieved if we learn to live together in inclusive, just and peaceful societies,” she added. After the programme, the judges and invited guests visited the class rooms to experience different country’s cultures and interacted with the students. Traditional costumes, political scenario, history, flora and fauna, language, food etc from these countries was on display. All together, 27 countries were adopted.
