In a move that is expected to yield positive results in the effort to keep Mokokchung Town clean, the Urban Development Department under Swachh Bharat Mission handed over six pick-up trucks to six wards of Mokokchung municipality today through the Nagaland State Brand Ambassador, SBM, Supongmeren Jamir.
In a programme held at the MMC Complex, Mokokchung, Supongmeren exhorted the people of Mokokchung to participate tirelessly in keeping the town clean. He also asked the beneficiaries to use the trucks exclusively for the purpose of waste and suggested that the respective wards devise relevant management modules. He also assured the people of all possible help under Swachh Bharat Mission.
Mokokchung ADC & Administrator of MMC, Bendanglila, who also chaired the function, stated that the trucks were being given away after undertaking a memorandum of understanding between the MMC and the beneficiary wards. She also informed that preliminary procedures are being undertaken to establish a state of the art waste recycling plant in Mokokchung.
Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Sushil Kumar Patel also spoke on the occasion while the chairman of Kichutip Ward spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries. A PowerPoint presentation on the topic “clean and healthy Mokokchung” was also presented by Mokokchung District Ambassador SBM, Limalenden Longkumer.
The event also marked the distribution of dust bins to various institutions, churches and organizations. Dedicatory prayer was pronounced by Rev. O. Yashi, Pastor, Sungkomen Baptist Church followed by the flagging off of the pickup trucks.
With 6 of the 18 wards under Mokokchung municipality being given their own pickup trucks for waste disposal, it is considered that the task of managing the rest of the town will be lighter for MMC. Artang, Alempang, Kichutip, Kumlong, Majakong and Mongsenbai Wards were the beneficiaries.
