Piglet distribution prog held at Nkwareu

Peren, August 30 (MExN): A piglet distribution programme was organized at Nkwareu, New Jalukie, Peren District on August 28 by ICAR-NDRI, Kalyani-ERS under the NEH project entitled ‘upliftment of socio-economic condition of tribal people through integrated livestock farming in North-Eastern Hill Region/Eastern part of India’ in collaboration with College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, Peren and North-Eastern Rural Livelihood Project (NERLP), Jalukie.  

A press release stated here that fifty piglets were distributed to 50 beneficiaries from four villages; Nkwareu, Samzuiram, Jalukie B and New Jalukie.  

Dr. TK Dutta, Head, ICAR-National Diary Research Institute (NDRI), ERS Kalyani, also the Principal Invigilator of the project was the chief guest of the programme. Dr. Dutta talked in brief about the project and its implementation and benefits the farmers would gain from this project for sustainable livelihood. Dr. (Capt.) G. Dhananjaya Rao, Dean, C.V.Sc, CAU, Jalukie has presided over the programme and appraised about the College and the livelihood project.  

Dr. Dutta was accompanied by a team of principal scientists including Dr. Ajoy Mandal, Dr. Anupam Chatterjee and Dr. M. Karunakaran.  T

o commemorate the CAU Silver Jubilee, an ‘Animal Health-cum vaccination camp’ was also organized by College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, Peren at the same venue.  

Dr. Gunjan Das, Associate Professor and Head, Veterinary Clinical Complex coordinated the Animal Health Camp and the overall programme. The piglet distribution programme was coordinated by Dr. Uttarani Maibam, Associate Professor, Department of VPB and Dr. Monosri Johari, Associate Professor, Department of AHE.  

The PO of NSS unit of the college led by Dr. Imtiwati, Associate Professor, Department of LPM also participated in the programme along with the volunteers from the class of 2nd Year.  

A total number of 88 farmers registered for the treatment of their livestock, birds and pet animals. A total of 198 numbers of animals were treated in the camp (Bovine:-08, Pig:-54, Dog:-54, Goat:-10 and Poultry:-72). A Total of 50 dogs were vaccinated against Rabies during the camp.
