PIL against Police, Dept of Irrigation & Flood control

Kohima, August 4 (MExN): A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Kohima Bench of the Gauhati High Court with regard to the manner of fund utilization by the Department of Police and the Department of Irrigation & Flood Control.   The PIL, filed by petitioners ST Yapang and Odi Jamir informed that Rs. 259.05 crores has been drawn by the Department of Police, Government of Nagaland for the purpose of repairing vehicles, petrol, oil and lubricants (POL), renovation of buildings, clearance of ration bills, purchase of vehicles and related equipments under the Police Modernisation scheme etc.  

Out of the said amount, 61.87 crores was drawn for repairing vehicles, purchase of tyres, tubes, hoods, and tarpaulin, while, Rs. 14.10 crores was drawn for POL. More interestingly, Rs. 7.73 crores was drawn on January 24, 2017 vide Drawal Authority No. 79 for deployment of Police for Municipal Elections in all districts of the state. “It is pertinent to state here that Municipal Elections in the entire State could not be conducted,” the PIL recalled.  

The Court in this regard, gave the state government four weeks to respond on the matter.
