PIL filed seeking demarcation of Dimapur-Karbi Anglong border

Dimapur, February 28 (MExN): A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Guwahati High Court seeking identification of the border between Karbi Anglong district and Dimapur district “for the smooth implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP).”

The petitioner sought the Court’s intervention in demarcating a “legally accepted” border between Dimapur district in Nagaland and Karbi Anglong district in Assam.

Petitioner Sushil Kumar, who identified himself as a “former member of Democratic Alliance of Nagaland,” submitted that with the Government of Nagaland’s order to bring Dimapur district under the Inner Line Permit (ILP), “locals residing on either side of the border are getting confused because of the lack of proper demarcation between the two states resulting in the unhappiness of the citizens.”

According to the petitioner, the order has affected more than 2 lakh of the population directly or indirectly and raised numerous questions on what will happen to their citizenship status and properties, or if they would be rehabilitated.

The plea contended, “the border dispute has taken many lives in the past,” and thus sought the Court’s intervention “so that in the future, any unfortunate incidents are prevented.”
