Dimapur, August 7 (DIPR): Hectic preparations were on today at the Agri Expo site, 4th Mile, Dimapur for the much awaited first Pineapple Fest slated to start on August 8. Pineapple farmers from all the districts of Nagaland were seen arranging and beautifying their respective stalls to showcase their produce in the 2-day fest.
Speaking to DPRO Dimapur at the venue, Joint Director Horticulture & the Mission Director for Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture, Dr. R. Elithung Lotha said the main objective of organizing the fest is to showcase the good quality pineapples of Nagaland, which he said is considered one of the best globally. "We want to convey to the people that Nagaland has unique/classic pineapples," he maintained.
Another aspect, he said, was to give platform to the pineapple farmers of all the districts of Nagaland to showcase their produce. The Mission Director also stated that the event will facilitate buyers/ sellers by connecting the producers directly with the buyers.
One major attraction during the fest will be the on the spot competition of fruit peeling, slicing and presentation in the presence of the Governor.
Dr. Elithung further disclosed that organising National Pineapple Fest at the same venue next year is also in the pipeline. The Pineapple Fest 2017 is a kind of prelude to that, he added.
