‘Planting hope for the future’

Plantation drive conducted at Kisama Heritage village, Kohima

Kohima, June 20 (MExN): The Kohima division Forest Department in collaboration with DC Kohima, Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, NAAME, youth volunteers of Phesama village, Kigwema village and Jakhama village carried out plantation drive under the theme ‘Planting hope for the future’ on June 19 and 20 at Kisama Heritage village.  

During the short programme, DC Kohima said that the plantation drive has been started in many districts to create awareness on environmental protection and conserving the wildlife for a healthy environment. He appealed the public to not only plant trees but to ensure judicious maintenance for a clean environment and sought the cooperation from various local bodies and youths to protect the environment. He appreciated the efforts contributed by the Forest Department, Nagaland Adventures Club and youths for successful implementation of the programme and achieving their target.  

DFO Kohima, Rongsenlemla Imchen while highlighting the importance of protecting the importance of environment said that the Kohima Forest division has distributed 20,000 saplings from central nursery from May 2018 in and around Kohima district to the public, institutions, army etc. She urged the public to maintain the plantations in a proper way to reach the objective of healthy environment. Vote of thanks was delivered by President NAAME, Rokovikuo Chalie.  

On June 20, the plantation drives were held in approach way to Science college, CF Complex, Lower Forest Colony and road site plantation near vulnerable areas. Furthermore, Kohima Forest Division has distributed and planted varieties of saplings for the year 2018-19 and organized many plantation drives in the district.
