Dimapur, March 13 (MExN): Under the theme “Pledge for Parity”, Assisi Centre for Integrated Development (ACID) organised Women’s Day Celebration cum Exhibition on March 12, 2016 at Assisi auditorium, Dimapur.
600 women, representing Self Help Groups (SHGs), Joint Liability Groups (JLGs), and Domestic Workers Group (DWG) from different parts of Dimapur, attended the programme.
A press release from Sr. Therese, Director, ACID informed that Tiakala, Deputy General Manager, NABARD, Regional Office Dimapur and Imlisashi Jamir, Assistant Labor Commissioner, Department of Labor and Employment, Dimapur graced the event with their presence.
While addressing the gathering, Tiakala highlighted on ‘Role of Women in Social Change’. She stated that women have no time to enjoy enough credit of what they deserve. At the same time, she expressed pride to mention that there are still women who sacrifice their time playing the role of a leader. Elaborating what Social Change means, she cited the example of Florence Nightingale who sacrificed herself in giving awareness on health and hygiene while attending to the needy. She asserted that women are the agent of social change and they have a great role to play in the community and the society at large.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Labor Commissioner spoke about the Unorganized Sector Social Security Act 2008. He also mentioned that 94% of employment was created by unorganized sector of workers. He also briefly spoke about different social security schemes like National Old Age pension, widow pension and others.
Cultural items from SHGs, JLGs, and DWGs marked the occasion. There was also exhibition of handicrafts and traditional items for sale during the programme, which concluded with sports and games, the release said.
