Through the initiative of the Ao Baptist Church Council (ABAM), the apex body of the Ao Baptist churches, its constituent churches conducted Clean Election themed Sunday service on February 26. ABAM had earlier sent out pledge cards in line with Clean Election Campaign and the Clean Election themed Sunday service was held in its constituent churches across the state.

The pledge card, among others, read: ‘I will not enter wrong date of birth in e-roll’, ‘I will only use only one voter identity card during election’, ‘I will not go against the teaching of Christ during election’, ‘I will not use might and power during election’, ‘I will neither use money to buy voter nor sell my votes to other’, and ‘I will vote for a leader who has a vision for the people and whose character is good.’

The individuals then have to append their names and signatures below a note which says, ‘I love my country/land and God. Therefore, I pledge to do above obligation in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.’

According to a report received here, the election themed Sunday service was held in every church under ABAM, where the congregation either verbally or in writing pledged to uphold the vows given in the pledge card. The Pastors’ sermons for the day were also based on the campaign.

In some churches, the congregation also took out procession in support of the Clean Election campaign while in some churches, the day was observed by highlighting several issues related with the campaign through different performances.

It was learnt that the pledge cards will be delivered door to door to the church members in many churches to append their signatures.
