Plywood units in Dimapur reprimanded

Dimapur, February 19 (MExN): Three prominent plywood units of Dimapur district – Changki Valley Forest Products, Tenyiphe; M/s Angami Ply, Tenyiphe and Akash Wood Products, 7th Mile were reprimanded today by a team of forest officials.
The forest officials were led by Lhoubeilatuo Kire, IFS, ACS to Chief Minister and HoFF, Dept of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Nagaland.
As per a press release received here, stock verification of the three units showed anomalies which did not match with the actual number of logs in the plywood premises.
Kire directed that the notice be issued immediately to all the three units under Nagaland Forest Act, 1968 and Tree Felling Regulation 2017 for legal action against the erring units.
He added that the Department will not hesitate “to take the extreme step of suspension or revoking of licenses.” Kire also instructed the forest officials to complete inspection of all HPC cleared units and non-HPC units within the next few days.
The team included Dr Kenei Miachieo, IFS, CF (STC); Jongpong Walling, Range Officer Dimapur; Imkongsunep, Range Officer Chümoukedima and 18 forest executive staff.
In a step-up effort to combat illegal timber business and smuggling, a special drive is being conducted to inspect and verify stocks in all wood based industries in the state, the release informed.
