Dimapur, December 17 (MExN): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will grace the golden jubilee celebration of the North Eastern Council (NEC) at Shillong on December 18.

According to NEC sources, all members of NEC, consisting of Union Home Minister, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Governors and Chief Ministers of all the North East States, Central Ministers belonging to NE Region, local MPs and MLAs and nominated members of NEC will be attending the Jubilee celebration, the state DIPR informed on Saturday.

Besides, the state Chief Secretaries, selected secretaries of Central Ministries, senior officers from NEC states and heads of the iconic institution set up with support from NEC have also been invited, it said.

On the occasion, ‘Golden Footprints,’ a commemorative volume chronicling NEC’s contribution towards the development of the region over the last 50 years will also be released during the Golden Jubilee event.

The Jubilee is expected to provide new platform for the NEC for delivering even better in the days to come and to spearhead more development initiatives as it has done effectively in the last five decades across the eight north east states.

The NEC was established by an Act of Parliament in 1971. It was formally inaugurated on November 7, 1972 at Shillong, and has completed 50 years in November this year.
