BJP Organising Secretary for the Northeast V Satish today said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi lack the wisdom to carry forward the Naga peace process. Speaking to media persons at Circuit House, Dimapur the saffron party strongman said the collective leadership of the NSCN (IM) is not pleased with the manner in which the Centre is handling the Naga issue. He said it was the initiative of the National Democratic Alliance which had made the leeway into the Indo-Naga talks.

When asked to comment on Advani’s favouring an anti-conversion law, Satish said, “BJP is looking for positive secularism.”

He was steadfast in his belief that the Congress would be ousted from power in Assam and said the BJP would play an instrumental role in government formation in that State. He said it was only the BJP that raised the issue of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants during the recently concluded Assam polls. Other parties were banking on the votes of these immigrants, he said. Asked on how the actual formation of government could be made in Assam, he said, “Let us wait till May 11.”

Enunciating that the Northeast is no more the bastion of the Congress, Satish said after the removal of Congress rule in Assam in 2006, the same would follow suit in Manipur in 2007. He said a charge sheet is being prepared to expose the misdeeds of the Manipur government. During the reign of the Congress, free and fair elections were not carried out, he said. The Congress stayed in power by using ‘certain’ means, he said.

His statement that the BJP in Nagaland was ‘100 percent satisfied’ with the manner in which the DAN coalition is functioning was echoed by State BJP President MC Konyak and ministers TM Lotha and Imtilemba Sangtam who were also present. TM Lotha said Nagaland was still using former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s economic package which is proving helpful for the people.
