Department of Land Resources on Tuesday held a Culmination Programme of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana, PMKSY (erstwhile Integrated Watershed Management Programme) Projects 3 & 4 under Batch II for Dimapur district at Biodiversity Resource Centre, Ruzaphema with Parliamentary Secretary for Land Resources and Excise, BS Nganlang as the chief guest.

He lauded the department officers and its staff for the successful completion of PMKSY Batch II and added that the objective of the government lay in facilitating benefits to the public. Nganlang appreciated the team work of the employees and urged other departments to emulate the same working spirit in the service of the citizens.

Nganlang expressed hope that with the support and cooperation of the public, many more projects concerning the rural populace would come to fruition thereby improving their economic standards.

Later, the Parliamentary Secretary distributed cheques amounting to Rs 1.30 lakh along with bank passbooks to 23 villages within Dimapur district marking the culmination of PMKSY Batch II.

Secretary, Land Resources, Y. Kikheto Sema (IAS) pointed out that the Department constituted about 0.12% of the total state employees and yet it was one of the most productive and performing departments. He said almost all the Watershed Development Team Members were sincere and highly qualified thus contributing to the resounding success of the central projects.

Stating that there was a huge potential within the department, Kikheto appealed NABARD towards working together in possible areas to uplift the rural economy.

ADC Medziphema, Vikhweno Chale and General Manager NABARD also spoke during the programme.

Director, Land Resources Department, Hoto Yeptho, who chaired the programme, informed that Nagaland was the first state in the country to have completed Batch II of PMKSY while most of the states were still continuing with Batch I.

After the programme, Asangla, wife of Parliamentary Secretary BS Nganlang inaugurated an Exhibition stall set up by Self Help Groups of various villages.

It may be mentioned that the Batch I culmination programme for the entire state was held at one go at Kohima in August last. However, for the Batch II, the Department decided to hold the culmination programme district wise so that its officers can have ground level information on the working system and its success and failures.
