
Tuensang, October 26 (MExN): One person has been convicted in Tuensang for “aggravated sexual assault” under Section 9 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and punishable under Section 10 of the Act.
Longshithung Ezung, Special Judge POCSO, Tuensang in a judgment and order passed on October 21, accordingly sentenced the accused Anil Thapa to undergo simple imprisonment of 5 years.
Moreover, as provided under section 357 CrPC and Rule 9 of POCSO Rule 2020, a compensation Rs 1 lakh was awarded to the victim, to be paid out of the fund created under the Nagaland Victim Compensation Scheme 2012, informed a press release from Kenile Kent, Additional Public Prosecutor, Tuensang.
The Secretary, Home (Relief and Rehabilitation) Government of Nagaland was directed to take steps to sanction and release the awarded amount within thirty days from the date of receipt of the judgement and order, it said. As per the release, the case was investigated by ASI Chilliam and the State of Nagaland was represented by Kent.
