Division, disunity and bloodshed among Nagas are generally attributed to selfish and power hungry leaders whose half cooked stories play havoc in the minds of the people, resulting in further misery and suffering for the common man. Nagas must avoid choosing wrong leaders because they will adopt wrong policies which begets social, economic and political burden for the people.
The GPRN/NSCN is seriously viewing Mr. Pohwang Konyak’s decision to contest in the Indian elections from 44 A/C Phomching Constituency under Mon. Here is a man who misled former Chairman S.S Khaplang into making wrong decisions at a crucial hour that resulted in the loss of many precious freedom fighters; this is the same man who lectured innocent public of interior eastern Nagaland that Naga sovereignty and independence will come through S.S Khaplang. This is also the same man who spearheaded the demand for separate statehood for eastern Nagas, accusing President Gen. (Retd.) Khole Konyak of opposing ENPO statehood demand, thereby painting the lifelong sacrifice of the committed leader in poor light. In Reality, GPRN/NSCN President Gen. (Retd) Khole only advised Pohwang Konyak that all MLAs under ENPO should resign expressing solidarity with the people if the demand was really serious. Naga political struggle is for all Nagas and therefore ENPO grievances and demand could be examined differently in solidarity without diluting the freedom struggle of entire Nagas.
It is clear that Mr Pohwang Konyak is responsible for creating a rift within the NSCN. He is the man responsible for the confusion among the Konyaks and among eastern Nagas in general. The GPRN/NSCN is not for or against any Indian political party, yet it takes strong exception to chameleon like personality of Mr. Pohwang Konyak who has assured eastern Nagas public On 7th Dec 2011 at Chen Vetneu village that, Naga Sovereignty and Independence was at the hand of S.S Khaplang alone and for which K.U shall stand and support S.S Khaplang till the sovereignty is achieved and thus, resulted in another fratricidal killing among the Nagas. On the other hand, he had utterly ridiculed the idea of a phase wise solution to Indo-Naga political issue propagated by the GPRN/NSCN. Such contradictory and unprincipled stand only reflects how little and inconsistent he has been for ENPO and eastern Nagas. Further division and misunderstanding awaits Naga society if men like Pohwang Konyak were to represent 44 A/C Phomching Constituency.
GPRN/NSCN will not be a mute spectator should Mr. Pohwang Konyak utilise the services of Burmese agents from across the border to create disturbances in the area. Further, it strongly denounce Mr. Pohwang Konyak for misleading and subsequently abandoning eastern Nagas in order to participate in the Indian elections as if he was not the main instrument of creating confusion among the general Naga public for preaching the ENPO’s separate statehood. Thereby, it demands immediate apology from the turncoat.
