A new police assistance centre under the jurisdiction of East Police Station, Dimapur, was officially inaugurated Friday at Darogapathar, behind NRL Petrol Pump.
Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Limasunep Jamir, who inaugurated the centre in his address exuded confidence that the centre would go a long way in instilling sense of security and safety to residents of not only Darogapathar village but also adjoining villages and colonies.
The CP acknowledged the cooperation and support of the village council and said the building housing the centre provided free of cost by the village council was an example of the vital role of community in maintaining law and order.
Jamir said though the police assistance centre maybe a “small footprint,” but it would make a difference in policing system if the public themselves come forward in assisting them.
Acknowledging the community policing in the locality wherein the villagers have caught persons involved in crimes within their jurisdiction and handing them to the police many a times, the police commissioner also said the uniformed personnel manning the assistance centre should be dutiful and disciplined.
The CP assured the villagers that the personnel would be available 24x7 for the residents of the village and its adjoining villages.
Chairman, Darogapathar Village Council, Nongtok Jamir, said the village established in 1811 has presently 775 households with 3000 plus population.
ADCP (Admn), Dimapur, RT Chang chaired the inauguration programme.
