Police busts counterfeit note racket in Manipur

Imphal, August 24 (NNN): Police crackdown against drug peddlers in Manipur’s Imphal East district on Wednesday also busted a counterfeit note printing racket.

Police said that three persons including a woman were also arrested in the operations carried out by a special anti-drug team of Imphal East district police early this morning. Police recovered 60 grams of heroin, 3970 WY tablets and 26 bundles of Rs 500 counterfeit notes.

The police further recovered 101 sheets for printing the fake currency, machines, and different items used in the printing of the fake notes in the operations.

The arrested woman was identified as Taslima while the other two persons have been identified as Boicha and Md Umar.

Police also said that based on specific information, the special team assisted by police commandos of the district and volunteers of YADA, a civil society organisation assisting in the police drive against illegal drugs in Imphal East district rushed to the house of Taslima under Irilbung police station early this morning.

When the joint team raided the house, they recovered 60 gram of heroin powder packed in six soap cases. Further raids in the vicinity of the house recovered 26 bundles of Rs 500 counterfeit notes (Rs 15 lakh) and WT tablets which were hidden underneath a chicken coop, police added.

Based on the disclosure made by Tashlima, the joint team rushed to the house of Boicha and raided his house.

From the house, the joint team recovered contraband N-10 tablets, SP tablets, Heroin powder and WY tablets.

Based on revelation made by Boicha during spot interrogation, the joint team raided a shop run by Md Umar at Kiyamgei Lilong Thong where they recovered machines and other materials used in printing the fake currency notes, the police further said.

The arrested trio along with the recovered items were handed over to Irilbung police station of Imphal East district for further investigation and necessary legal action, the police further added.
