Police clarifies report on ‘abducted Naga boy’

Dimapur, June 8 (MExN): Dimapur police today clarified as not “wholly correct” the news report published in the local dailies about a Naga boy Rokovilie, 11-12 years,  who was allegedly ‘abducted’ and has been spotted by Naga travelers, as cleaning trains for a living. However, police has assured that efforts will be undertaken to  bring  the  boy  back.

The Media in Dimapur had received an  email from  the administrator of a group ‘We the Nagas’ on popular social networking site Facebook. They had felt that the story should be published to highlight the matter to the authorities in concern.

In a press conference today,  Additional SP of Dimapur Sunget Longkumer, with SDPO Dimapur Shouka Kakheto and Women Cell personnel, divulged that the real name of the boy is Rokuve also known as Lilungse and is 13 years of age. The boy had gone missing last year   but   was brought to Dimapur on November 24, 2009 after being ‘found’ by  a traveler Khegholi Awomi who brought the boy to the Women Cell of Dimapur. The boy was later handed over to  his  father  the  same  day.

Dimapur Women Cell personnel said that somewhere in March/April this year, the boy  escaped from home following an altercation  with  his  father.

The report about his sister being in the possession of some non-locals and his statement that his sister was beaten up (if he failed to earn at least hundred rupees per day) was termed as false by the police.

Rokuve’s father, who was present during the press meet, confirmed the police’s statement. The father said Rokuve has two sisters and that both are in Nagaland. The boy’s father also narrated that after an altercation between them for a petty reason, Rokuve once again disappeared from the house. However, it was let known that the boy had ‘willfully’ escaped from home but Police reassured that since Rokuve is a minor, all efforts will be put to trace his whereabouts and bring him back home.
