Dimapur Commissioner of Police (CP), Kevithuto Sophie informed on Friday that the two policemen involved in the January 29 assault of a 19 year old college student has been suspended. The victim, identified as Moalong Jamir, was physically assaulted by two police personnel of the Anti Vehicle Theft Squad on January 29 resulting in multiple injuries. In light of the incident, several organisations including student bodies had demanded the suspension of the erring police personnel involved in the incident. The Nagaland State Human Rights Commission had also asked the Director General of Police (DGP) to submit a report on this matter within a week’s time.
