Kohima, October 7 (MExN): Personnel of Khuzama Police Station on October 6 around 1:40 pm seized a dumper which was reported stolen from Dimapur on Viswema-Kedima road. The police team had been deputed to conduct surprise checking on movement of illegal drug trafficking and stolen vehicles along the road.
During the checking process, one vehicle (Logan Mahindra) bearing registration number AS01AH-9877 (suspected to be an escort vehicle) followed by the dumper without registration number approached the police team. They were made to stop and while questioning the occupants, the driver of the dumper along with one occupant managed to escape from the spot, informed Atu Zumvü, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (South) & PRO, Kohima. However, another driver along with five other occupants of the light vehicle (escort vehicle) was arrested and both the vehicles were seized, the PRO said.
It was further informed that the chassis and engine number of the seized dumper tallied with the stolen vehicle. On examination, the release added, it was ascertained that two of the arrested persons came from Imphal to purchase the stolen dumper and the other three were supposed to dispose the vehicle. The driver of the dumper who managed to escape from the scene was engaged for an amount of Rs. 20,000/- to drive the dumper from a petrol pump near bye-pass, Kohima upto Ukhrul in Manipur, it stated.
The arrested persons have been identified as A. John Zeliang (27), Kakivi Aye (22), R.M. Najin (24), R.M. Chimari (41), Hobato Awomi (31), and Mento Mech (22).
The stolen vehicle along with the arrested persons was handed over to Dimapur Police on October 6 around 10:00 pm for taking further course of legal action.
