Police units in Nagaland declared ‘Plastic Free Zone’

In a bid to develop environment friendly atmosphere, Nagaland’s Home Minister Y. Patton today declared “Plastic Free Zone” in all police units in Nagaland.  

Declaring this during his 3rd phase tour to police battalion headquarters under Kohima district today, the home minister directed all concerned commandants to implement the same in their respective unit in letter and spirit.  

Mentionably, 5th NAP Battalion Phek and 10th NAP (IR) Zhadima have declared its unit as “Free Plastic Zone” sometime back.

  In another development, 7th NAP Bhandari has declared every Wednesday as “No Vehicle Day, which was launched by home minister recently. This initiative has been launched to save fuel, save environment, and keep fit.  

Earlier, addressing the police officers at DEF Kohima, Patton called upon the state police force to remain vigil to maintain law and order and to create peaceful and conducive environment in the state.  

Appreciating the performance of police force, he said because of them the law and order situation in Dimapur and Kohima and the entire state is quite peaceful now.   Meanwhile, Patton assured to take up some requirements on priority basis as desire and put forward by DEF Kohima, 10th NAP Zhadima and 4th NAP Thizama during his visit today.  

ASSURANCE MADE BY HOME MINISTER DEF KOHIMA

*To post a Protocol Officer on attachment from other units preferably in the rank of Deputy Commandant/Additional SP, which is required due to high frequency of visit of VVIPs from outside the state and also VVIP programmes of the state Governor and Chief Minister especially during the festive seasons.  

*To upgrade of existing Women Cell to full-fledged Women Police Station to empower it to function independently. This will not have any financial implications.  

* To upgrade both the existing North and South Traffic Control to full- fledged Police Stations to function independently. This will not have any financial implications.  

4TH NAP THIZAMA

*To take up repairing of potholes and black topping of main and its adjacent roads leading to MT Garage, Regimental School and Stores.  

10TH NAP (IR) ZHADIMA

*To take up black topping from unit hospital to school and RP Gate to Parade Ground within this year  

* To construct retaining wall at Children’s Park.  

Home Minister on tour to police battalion headquarters

Nagaland Home Minister Y. Patton today visited 10th NAP (IR) Battalion Zhadima, 4th NAP Battalion Thizama and DEF Kohima as part of 3rd phase tour to police battalion headquarters in Nagaland.  

The idea behind this extensive tour is to gather first hand information on the functioning of the police force and to attend to their grievances and requirements on priority basis.  

In today’s tour, Patton was accompanied by Nagaland DGP L.L. Doungel, IGP (Range) Bendang Lemtur, Er. Jenithung, EE (PEP) and SDO Kohima division. Patton interacted with the battalion officers and discussed matters pertaining to the requirement of the respective units.  

He was impressed by good performance of the respective battalions and encouraged them to continue to do well with diligence.  

Earlier, 10th NAP (IR) Zhadima commandant Rothihu Tetseo, 4th NAP Thizama commandant Vekhosa Kotso and Kohima SP Joseph Hesso apprised the home minister on their respective battalion requirements and received positive response from him.   Damage of some houses due recent windstorm at 10th NAP (IR) Zhadima and 4th NAP Thizama was also brought to the notice of the home minister.  

Rothihu Tetseo maintained that Patton is the first home minister to visit 10th NAP (IR) Zhadima in history, adding that it has boost the morale of the battalion. Appreciating the visit, Vekhosa Kotso assured that the battalion will do its best to prove worthy to whatever assignment given to them.  

Kohima SP Joseph Hesso also assured fullest cooperation from DEF Kohima. Meanwhile, Patton will be visiting 14th NAP (IR) Battalion Razhuphema, DEF Peren (Old Peren) and 9th NAP (IR) Battalion, Saijang on May 19.   On May 20, the home minister will visit Dimapur and interact with the police officers in combined meet of Ist NAP, 15th NAP (IR) Mahila, NAPTC, PTS, PCS, PCW, PEP and Police Commissionerate.
