Zunheboto | August 13
In what seems like a replay of the Dimapur Municipal Council imbroglio, this time as someone would call it whitewash, Zunheboto Town Council has hit upon a leadership crisis with 11 out of 13 council members moving a no-confidence motion against the Chairperson Vishiho Awomi. The agitating members Hukiye Kugha, Z Ahoto Tuccu, Khekuto Jimo, Khevishe Jimo, Ghovishe A Kiba, Khehoshe Yeptho, Nitovi Awomi, Shihoto Jimo, Vihoto Jimo, Mughato Jimo and Hekuto I Sumi have put forward a written submission of No Confidence Motion to the Deputy Commissioner, Zunheboto. According to sources, the sole non-signatory, Deputy Chairperson, Kitoho Rotokha is the proposed Chairperson.
According to sources, the members tried their best effort to convince the Chairperson to relinquish from his post of leadership ‘honorably’ and with ‘dignity’. “We tried to make him see the ground reality” said one member and continued, “to resolve the issue amicably before taking this step”. Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairperson said that he is willing to abide by the decision of the councilors.
The Deputy Commissioner, C K Nihekhu Sema has issued a notice in this regard to all the members to assemble at the town council office on August 21 to prove the majority of the proposed no-confidence motion against the Chairperson, ZTC.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson in his comment said he’ll try to negotiate with the agitating members and resolve the issue before the sitting. “Signatures are not alarming as it is not binding and can always be withdrawn” said the Chairperson.
According to the NPF Zunheboto Division, they have resolved to stand on ‘neutral ground’ over this issue. In its notification to the ZTC members, who were elected through the party ticket, the party may be bound to take disciplinary action the agitating members for submitting no-confidence motion against the Chairperson to the DC before consulting the party or the legislators of the District. And the party has taken it as ‘breach’ of party discipline.
However, the party is also taking into consideration the democratic principle of the majority decision to change the leadership and maintains that the party decision over this issue will be final and binding and all concern members must support and abide to it.
It is learnt that the MLA Zunheboto, S Hukavi Zhimomi has been ‘advising’ and ‘guiding’ the concern for an amicable solution and to avoid this crisis.
