Kohima: MLA Deo Nukhu today asserted that ‘politicians will come and go, but bureaucracy remains.’ Speaking at the 13th session of the Chakhesang Gazetted Officers Forum here in Hotel Japfu, Nukhu said since officers are the guardians of rules and procedures as laid down by the government, “we must see that the rules and procedures are protected with justices.” Nukhu, who is the deputy chairman of the State Planning Board, said the government in power may decide but the goods are delivered to the people through the field officers.
In this connection, he said, the responsibilities of the officers are very important for effective implementation of government programmes for the benefit of the people.
“I believe you have not landed in a department by accident, but you are appointed as an officer for a purpose. Hence, the CGOF should have better coordination and see as to how best they can help our people through the various departments as they are serving by way of giving proper information and guidance, “he said. Earlier, The Forum president Veprasa Nyekha said the gazetted officers from Chakhesang stands at around 370 which is less than 1 per cent of population.
Representative from our tribe in administrative position in IAS, IPS, IFS is much lesser when compared with other tribes, he said while adding that the Forum may send a proposal to the government to confer IIAS cadre on suitable and competent in service administrative officers from the tribe.
“This will give our community a positive recognition,” he added.
Earlier CGOF vice president Vengota Nakro said a welcome address. Vote of thanks was tendered by joint secretary Nusheta Rhakho. It is pertinent to mention that this year’s session was hosted by Kuzholuzo Nienu, minister for agriculture, printing and stationery.
