
Dimapur, November 20 (MExN): Atomi Zhimomi. MLA attended the Valedictory function of the 54th All India Cooperative Week celebration at Town Hall on November 20 as Chief Guest. Expounding on the theme “Popularising Cooperative Model of Development for Inclusive Growth”, the Chief Guest stated that the cooperative movement will have to be popularised in such a way that it provides overall development of the State and country economically, socially, culturally and democratically.
Pointing to the essential features of successful cooperatives, Atomi stated that these were to be informed and having loyal membership with growing and efficient business. “Professionalism should be key orientation of the members of cooperative organisation. The cooperatives need committed leadership as well as professional members to popularize the cooperative model of business enterprises among the masses”, he stated adding that this can be done with proper implementation of cooperative Education and Training which is prerequisite for the success of cooperative sector in the state and country.
Expressing his views on urbanization, the MLA stated that as the world becomes increasingly urban centric it was essential that policy makers understand the power of City or Town as a catalyst for National Development. “Cities or Towns have to be able to provide inclusive living conditions for all their residents. Every body coming to urban area with a new hope, has the right to decent living, clean environment and also the right to provision of basic services”, he said.
In this regard, he pointed out that cooperative housing is an effective and powerful sector for promoting adequate and affordable housing. “The Primary advantage of cooperative housing is that it enables the beneficiary families to mobilize their resources and contribute significantly not only the shelter to member families but also bringing families together to promote the neighborhood and provide impetus for collective actions for various social and economic gains to the community”.
