Porbami Students’ Union: ‘Empowering the future through 75 years of learning’

The Porbami Students’ Union (PSU) has celebrated its 75th Anniversary from January 8 to 9 at Porba village in Phek district under the theme “Empowering the future through 75 years of learning.”

Gracing the celebration as the special guest, Nagaland’s power & parliamentary affairs minister KG Kenye paid tribute to the pioneers of PSU for the visionary works which they had laid and pave way for education.

The minister said that the most unproductive generations are the present generation, still living in the foundation and sacrifice of the elders, adding that the present generation are more self-centred and have not rise to the occasion to positively contribute to the progress of its people and the land.

In this, he called upon the younger generation to come forward and play their part for a healthy and positive society.

Sharing greetings, Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) president Medovi Rhi said “This is a moment for self evaluation, a time to realign ourself with the values our forefathers have cherished.”

As we redefine progress, the legacy of the Porbami community and the PSU remind us the power of unity, courage and a shared commitment to the common good, he said.

Let us embrace change together and progress in a way that brings honour, hope and prosperity to the entire Naga family, he added.

He described the theme “Empowering the Future through 75 years of Learning”, as a reminder of how crucial it is to reflect on our past, learn from it and build on the legacy of those who came before us to forge a brighter tomorrow.

Stating that the former leaders have long been pillars of our society, he said “Through their strength, wisdom and sacrifice they have contributed immensely to the welfare of our families and communities and to the identity of the Naga people as a whole.

By perfecting on their contribution we are also reminded that the future of the Naga people is incomplete without the continued empowerment and leadership of our students and youth.”

The PSU, a product of visionary ideals has stood as a strong pillar within the CSU, NSF, since its inception, he said adding that the Union through its visionary leadership and unwavering dedication, has play a partial role in fortifying the CSU and NSF.

The Leaders produced by the PSU, who have served within the NSF over the years exemplify this commitment. These leaders have not only uphold the core principles of the NSF, but have also demonstrate unity, resilience and a shared sense of responsibility toward the progress of the Naga people, he added.

Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) president Pfhiilo Sara paid deepest respect and homage to the pioneers who had the foresight and determination to establish the PSU. “Their vision to create a platform that addresses the needs of students and amplifies their collective voice has not only shaped the lives of countless individuals but has also laid the foundation for a thriving and dynamic community,” he said.

He maintained that the Porbami student community has immensely contributed to the progress and development of the Chakhesang community as a whole and to the Chakhesang Students' Union in particular.

Over the years, many individuals from this vibrant community have served the CSU in various capacities, bringing vitality, creativity, and strength to our Union, he added.

“As we celebrate this momentous 75th anniversary, I pray that this village will continue to produce outstanding leaders who will guide us with wisdom and integrity,” he said.

This celebration is not only a reflection of our rich history and the legacy of our predecessors but also a call to action to strengthen our shared cause, carry forward their vision, and work together reward a brighter and more progressive future,” he said adding “It is a time for us to reaffirm our commitment to unity, harmony, and collective efforts as we continue to strive for excellence and growth.”

Solidarity message was also delivered by Thevoma Students’ Union, Khonoma village and Mhasituo Kire,
President, Dapfhütsumia Students’ Union, Kohima village on the ground of friendship village. Earlier, PSU president Shehü Rüho delivered presidential address while Dr. K. Chitale Hiese, Chief Medical Officer Phek released PSU souvenir.

Porba Village Council chairman Ciekrohü Chiero delivered welcome address while Rhücho Tureng, oldest
surviving former president PSU pronounced elderly blessings. The programme was chaired by Vetho Vadeo while vote of thanks was pronounced by PSU general secretary Manü Chiero. Earlier, Velulü Tureng Nusory, Deputy Commandant 5th NAP Phek spoke on January 8.
