MOKOKCHUNG, JUNE 14 (MExN): Commissioner & Secretary to the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Vikeyie Kenya inaugurated a portable Liquid Nitrogen Plant (LNP) at the Veterinary Hospital Complex, Yimyu ward, Mokokchung on June 14. The plant has been implemented by the Nagaland Livestock Development Board (NLDB) under Rastriya Gokul Mission.

Speaking on the occasion, Kenya stated that with the opening of the factory, it will be able to meet the demands of livestock farmers not only in the area, but also in districts nearby. He asserted that despite the department having adequate manpower and being one of the oldest in the state, the general public is unaware of the activities that the department carries out.

As a result, he has asked the officers and staff to properly document the department's activities in order to inform farmers about the availability of technical assistance from the department. He also urged the staff to maintain the facility properly and take ownership of it.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr K Gwirie, Joint Director, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services maintained that India stands as the highest milk producing country in the world since 1998, yet Nagaland is still a deficit state in milk production.

The centrally sponsored Rastriya Gokul Mission programme seek to significantly increase the bovine population within an organized breeding network through the strengthening and best utilization of institutional infrastructure, for which the LNP is the backbone of all Artificial Insemination activities. This will bring about the desired change by strengthening the cattle and buffalo breeding activities in the state and increasing productivity levels.

Additionally, he gave the assurance that the permanent supply of LNP and superior germplasm would encourage people to support their way of life through dairy farming.

Delivering a short speech on behalf of NLDB, Managing Director NLDB, Dr Achila Ao, highlighted the basic working procedure of the plant and its utilization. She also urged the officers & staffs to judiciously make use of the plant so that it will benefit the people.
