‘Positive change in Dimapur will reverberate throughout the state’

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 23 (MExN): The Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) while extending support to the Public Action Committee’s (PAC) checks on illegal collections stated that any “positive change in Dimapur will reverberate throughout the state.”

A press release from the AKMWP President, Neibulie Kiewhuo; General Secretary, Thejao Sekhose; and Legal Adisor & Joint Secretary, Hukato Chishi said that due to “illegal collection/extortion in Dimapur, the economic gateway of the state have remained central to the compelling sky high rocketing price of goods and services.”

It further lamented that there is a “deadening numbness to our sensitivity, our sense of Justice, our differentiation of right from wrong, compromise of one's principles, etc, so much so that any individual daring to make a principled stand, may, in all likelihood be classified as a loose screw, an eccentric rather then an honorable man, a man of principles deserving respect and admiration.”

Lauding the PAC’s efforts, the AKMWP stated that “the absence of animosity towards the authorities and other parties and the absence of disturbances/bandhs/ etc letting the common folks go about their business like any other ordinary day is indeed commendable.”

It meanwhile said that all eyes are now fixed upon the government. It questioned whether the government would act swiftly to hold accountable those departments and staff caught violating its directions; ensure “cleaning up of this mess” and put in measures to prevent its recurrence; and take note of civil societies’ fight to “secure a peaceful and better future for all.”
