Post-harvest management, value addition training held at Tethuyoi

TETHUYOI, JULY 25 (MExN): A two-day training programme on harvesting, post-harvest management, value addition, and marketing was held at the Tethuyoi Council Hall on July 23. The event was organised by the Nagaland Centre for Human Development and Information Technology (NCHD&IT) with support from the National Foundation for India (NFI).

A total of 30 farmers from Tethuyoi, Sanphure, and Sangtoze villages participated in the programme aimed at enhancing farming practices, reducing post-harvest losses, and improving farm incomes.

Technical sessions were led by experts from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the Department of Horticulture, and NCHD&IT. Key topics included:

Harvesting and Post-Harvest Management: Alok Dubey, Subject Matter Specialist (Agricultural Extension), and Dr K. Srilikha, Subject Matter Specialist (Home Science) from KVK Kiphire, ICAR.

Sustainable Farming and Resilient Agricultural Practices: Seroba Sangtam, Horticulture Extension Assistant, Department of Horticulture, Kiphire. Soil Health and Pest Management: Alemla Longchar, NCHD&IT. Value Addition and Marketing Strategies: Jenyangsonla Chang, NCHD&IT.

Participants were trained in improving crop quality, careful handling of produce, use of natural pest control methods, and value addition techniques such as drying, packaging, and processing. Strategies for accessing markets and boosting profitability were also discussed.

The programme featured practical demonstrations and interactive sessions, allowing farmers to raise queries, share experiences, and gain hands-on knowledge applicable to their fields.
