DIMAPUR, MAY 24 (MExN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaland University in collaboration with IARI (Indian Agriculture Research Institute) New Delhi, took the initiative of introduction of Kufri Jyoti variety of potato for large scale demonstration in Zunheboto.
The KVK was able to provide 8000 kg of quality potato seeds at 4 villages in Zunheboto district covering 65 farm families, a press release issued by Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, Principal Scientist and Head, KVK informed.
The Principal Scientist and his team visited the potato fields at some of the villages on May 23 to assess the growth and production performance. As per farmers’ feedback, the performance of Kufri Jyoti variety is very good with an average yield of around 12. 5 tonnes/hectare and a gross income of Rs. 3, 60,000.00 per hectare is expected.
The KVK is of the opinion that potato farming is very much suitable in hilly terrain and can be an option to enhance their source of income within a short span of time.
