Poultry Farm to enhance production initiated in Akhegwo: Konyak

Kohima, February 13 (MExN): Paiwang Konyak, Minister for Transport, Civil Aviation and Railways, Land Resources today shed light on the status of Chick Hatchery Unit at Akhegwo village, Phek District.

He said that the Department had initiated establishment of Poultry Farm at Akhegwo with assistance from the Government of India under RKVY, to enhance production of poultry in Phek District through Hatching.

Accordingly, Konyak said that infrastructure like Poultry Shed, Office, Godown, Approach Road, Water Tank, Security Fencing, Entry & Exit Gates including approach and internal road were completed.

However, the Department “could not make it functional due to non availability of Electrical Transformer and IT line for Hatching as it was not supported for funding by the Government of India.”

He further clarified that the Department decided to change the objective of the Farm by converting the Hatchery into Chick Rearing Centre with a view to provide 30 day old “Low Input Technology” Chicks to the needy farmers.

MLA Yitachu stated that such projects will benefit the people of interior areas and requested the Department to “take up the project sincerely so as to engage farmers and improve their livelihood.”
