Poultry vaccinated against Ranikhet at Thipuzumi

Phek, January 29 (MExN): An animal health cum vaccination camp was held at Thipuzumi village in Kikruma block under the project National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA), CRIDA, Hyderabad on January 25. Organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Phek, the camp was conducted by Dr. Debojyoti Borkotoky, Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science) assisted by Potsulu Theluo, Senior Research Fellow, NICRA project and staff Arovi.  

More than 700 poultry birds were vaccinated against Ranikhet disease, a press release informed. Ranikhet is a highly contagious disease in fowls causing great economic loss to farmers every year due to its endemic and epidemic nature. Veterinary counseling and treatment to the ailing animals were provided to the livestock farmers of the village during the camp. Anthelmentic medicines and mineral mixture for chicken, turkey, pig, thotho, dog and cat were also made available. Meanwhile, animal health promoting supplements and medicines were provided to boost the immunity of their animals against various livestock diseases which may arise in case of climate stress.  

The members of Village Climate Risk Management Committee (VCRMC) of the project assisted in motivating and mobilizing the farmers and youth of the village to participate in the camp.
