Poumai Naga Union appeals for peace and brotherhood

Senapati, March 24 (MExN): Poumai Naga union (PNU), the apex organization of the Poumai community has expressed its deep concern over the situation between Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) and Mao Council (MC) and appealed for restoration of peace and unity.

In a press statement, the PNU noted that the union always cherished the bonds of brotherhood and respect that bound them together through generations.

The tensions arising over the disputed land at Kezoltsa/Koziirii area is saddening and planted discord and conflicts between brothers, it conveyed.

Accordingly, the PNU appealed to both SAPO and MC to “consider for the greater good of our community and uphold the values of brotherhood and respect.”

The union also acknowledged the authority and wisdom of the Tenyimi Peoples’ Organisation (TPO), and urged both the communities to honour and abide by any decision or verdict pronounced by TPO as per the Naga customary laws as it represents the “collective will and interest of our people.”

As brothers we have achieved much together in the past and it is imperative that we continue to stand united, especially in times of adversity, it reminded.

The current tension has not only affected the two organisations alone but also caused anguish and concern among our people and it is crucial that we prioritise dialogue, build understanding and work for reconciliation to pave the way for a harmonious future, it stated.

The PNU reaffirmed its commitment to SAPO and MC communities and pledged to stand by each other through thick and thin.
