Power Dept seeks patience from consumers

MOKOKCHUNG, AUGUST 9 (MExN): The Nagaland State Department of Power today informed electricity consumers in Mokokchung that the present power crisis in the town is due to the damage sustained by one of five MVA, 33/11KV power transformer in Mokokchung Power house.

A press note from the department informed that the damaged transformer is being repaired at Dimapur central store and will take approximately 2 weeks as it involves a tedious process of rewinding of core, placement in heat chamber for removing moisture and testing.

The department then revealed that a team of manufacturing engineers from Crompton Greaves were deputed to Mokokchung Power House to assess the quantum of repair works required to restore the defective protective equipment and devices. The required parts are reportedly being arranged on credit and restoration work will start immediately on the receipt of spares.

The department also appreciated the AWUM in handholding with the department for collection of revenue in the town, “as one of the best practices in the state.” It however informed that revenue generated from electricity bill cannot be utilised by the department for any purpose but gets remitted to the government exchequer as state revenue.

It asked the consumers and citizens of Mokokchung to bear with the department till the system is fully restored. It assured that despite fund constraints, the department is making every effort to restore supply.
