Power dept urges consumers to use electricity judiciously

Kohima, May 20 (MExN): The Power Department on Wednesday informed that there has been rapid increase of power consumption especially in Dimapur and appealed consumers to make judicious use of electricity.


In a press release, Chief Engineer (D&R), Department of Power, stated that the Department is “having a difficult time” in handling the rapid increase of power consumption and as such, requested consumers to reduce the use of air conditioning facilities and judiciously use other power consuming electronic gadgets.


In case the present increase continues, "the Department will be compelled to resort to regular shutdown of power system and also start vigorously disconnecting consumers who are not paying their bills,” it stated.

 

Online payment of bills
Meanwhile, in another press release issued by Rükongutuo Suohu, Executive Engineer (Electrical), Kohima Division, the Department requested consumers under Kohima Electrical Division to login to the Department of Power’s website www.dopn.gov.in to view and also pay their bills online using their Consumer ID.


There is also a provision in the web portal for consumers to submit their meter reading where one needs to register in the website and exercise the option for Trusted Meter Reading based on which bills shall be generated. This is being insisted in order to maintain social distancing as much as possible as we fight to contain the spread of COVID-19, the release stated.


While admitting that there could be cases of inaccurate bills despite best efforts, it requested consumers to visit the respective Sub-Division’s office for clarifications/corrections on all working days.
