DIMAPUR, AUGUST 2 (MExN): The Joint Ward Coordination Committee (JWCC) of Meluri Town today expressed concern at the power failures plaguing Meluri town and urged the concerned authority to address their concerns within 10 days.
A press note from the committee informed that only 500KVA transformers have been installed at Meluri town despite the growing urbanization and increasing demand for power connections.
“In spite of our repeated request to replace the old transformer the power department has turned a deaf ear to the plea of the public. The present power failure due to break down of transformer is for the second time in a span of one & half months,” it stated and demanded that the department make alternative arrangements within 10 days.
It reminded that on May 22 and June 10, the town’s problems with electricity supply was shared with the Chief Engineer T&R, and requests were made for additional 500KVA (i.e.) 2 numbers of 250KVA transformers, “to which assurance was given that early action would be taken by the department.”
“However, after repair of the damaged transformer, it lasted for one month only, and the requirement for additional 500KVA is still awaited. The 63 KVA can feed only a handful of households and it is not sufficient,” the committee observed.
It meanwhile cautioned that citizens of Meluri town would stage protests if the Power Department fails to install a new transformer and make alternate arrangements within 10 days.
