Longleng, June 18 (MExN): The Phom Peoples’ Council (PPC) and the Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) have expressed serious concern over what they termed as the ‘slow progress and inadequate workforce’ at the construction site of the District Hospital, Longleng.
Following a recent joint inspection led by PPC President YB Angam Phom and PSC President C Sham-e Phom, the two apex bodies of Longleng in a joint statement maintained that the construction of the hospital is significantly behind its scheduled completion target of March 2026.
Among other issues, the inspection revealed minimal workforce deployment at the site, prompting the two organisations to issue an urgent call for action to the contractor and implementing agencies.

“If this is the pace of progress, how can the contractor, in good conscience, hand over this hospital to the people of Longleng?” questioned PPC President Angam Phom in a joint statement. “The quality, speed, and seriousness of this project must reflect its importance. Our community deserves better.”
The ongoing delay in delivering this vital healthcare facility is “unacceptable,” highlighting serious lapses in both planning and execution, the PPC and PSC stated.
Accordingly, they firmly appealed to all concerned departments and executing agencies to immediately deploy sufficient workforce and technical expertise at the site.
The two bodies also called for acceleration of construction work without compromising on quality, and demanded strict accountability and transparency in the execution process.
Further, they urged authorities to provide regular public updates on the project’s progress.
Failure to demonstrate visible improvement in the coming weeks, the duo cautioned, would compel them to escalate the matter to higher authorities and intensify public monitoring and accountability mechanisms.
The PPC and PSC further reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of the Phom community and to ensuring the timely and transparent execution of critical infrastructure projects, citing their current intervention as a case in point.
