Dimapur, March 6 (MExN): The Pathso Public Organisation (PPO) has condemned the statement made by the MLA of the 57 Assembly Constituency, Thonoknyu, regarding the alleged misappropriation of funds for the Noklak–Panso road.
In a press statement, the PPO said the remarks were made during a public address on January 3 at Pathso Nokeng during the 30th Pathso Nokeng Public Organisation general session.
According to the PPO, the MLA “alleged that an amount of 40 crores allocated for the construction of Noklak-Panso road had been misappropriated without any actual visible work.”
The organisation stated that it examined the claim following the allegation.
“The (PPO) being a public organisation and the watchdog of its people, took cognizance of the grave allegation made by the MLA and verified his statement from the concerned department,” the statement said.
However, it added that the department concerned denied having any information about such a fund.
The organisation said the allegation was serious and demanded that the MLA provide proof.
“In light of this clarification, the PPO find this conduct highly reprehensible and contemptuous of public office. It is unbecoming and disgraceful for an elected representative to peddle such wild allegation on a public platform,” the statement said.
The PPO further demanded that the MLA produce evidence to support the claim “failing which the PPO will be compelled to initiate Legal proceeding against him as per the provision of law.”
