Stating that “President’s Rule is a blessing in disguise for Nagaland”, AICC Secretary, Ranji Thomas asserted that the lessons of administration and accountability has been started by the Government machinery in the past one month. “The state’s development has come to a stand still in the last five years” he argued.
Addressing a press conference at Hotel Japfü, Kohima on Thursday evening, he said that accountability should be there, and if there is, it should be for the betterment of people and not for political leaders. Alleging “every appointment was done politically” he said that regional parties narrow down only to the state where on the contrary, the central party has broader visions, in terms of national and international. He said that if any other political party was at the center, Nagaland could not have been receiving the funds it is getting now. “Even if the Congress party was not in Nagaland, the Congress party at the center never failed to give,” he added.
With leaders like Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi at the center, the growth and development as in India should equally resemble in Nagaland, he said. Nagaland should be manifested which would be possible only with the coming of Congress party. This party (Congress) is the only party that can guide the whole nation, he claimed. Maintaining that the potentiality of Nagaland is “unexplainable,” he expressed his admiration on the scenic beauty of Nagaland and its people, adding that there is lot of potential in the tourism sector which needs to be tapped properly.
Expressing pain that some Congress leaders were resigning after being denied a ticket, he said “it’s their immaturity to resign from the party just for not getting the party ticket” and that their resignation from the party and joining another may not have much impact. He was hopeful that they would change their mind to be back in the party.
Also stating that Nagaland is heading for a peaceful, progressive and excellence in the next five years, he said that there is enthusiasm in Naga people and there is desire for peace and progress.
“I feel the Naga people are excited to elect the new government, which they were waiting for a long time,” he said.
Ranji who arrived the state capital few days back, also wished the voters of Nagaland for free and fair election so that their “hopes blossom and ideals are achieved for a brighter Nagaland.” NPCC working president Khriedi Theunuo and ex-MLA Nuzota Swuro were also present at the press conference.
