Practice ‘Recycle, Reuse and Reduce’

Campaign on Swachh Bharat Mission and DigiLocker

Kohima, October 15 (MExN): An awareness programme on Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) was held on October 14 at Lower Agri colony here, organised by Water and Sanitation Support Organisation (WSSO), PHED in collaboration with the Lower Agri Ward Council. The event was attended by Lower Agri Ward Council members, women and colony members of Lower Agri and officials from various departments, including Dr. Neikesalie Nicky Kire, Minister for Forest, Environment and Climate Chage.  

The importance of sanitation and the greater need to practice sanitation was stressed by Thepfulie Theünuo, Sanitation and Hygiene Consultant, District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM), PHED. He urged the participants to devote 100 hours every year towards the cause of cleanliness. “Civic sense is not confined to one’s own home but also towards the community as well,” maintained Theünuo, who encouraged the ward to practice ‘Recycle, Reuse and Reduce’.  

Giving an introduction of SBM, Er. Jakpou Khiamniungan, Executive Engineer, PHE (Rural), who initiated the awareness campaign, reminded that the SBM was launched on October 2, 2014 by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi with a vision to make India clean by 2019 on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Starting sanitation from the home was impressed upon the participants by Er. Jakpou, who sensitised on the essence of proper waste disposal (solid and liquid waste management), toilets and proper drainage system to carry out a successful sanitation drive. The mass contribution of the community is important to supplement the general rule of SBM, he added. Pointing out the important role women play in the household and community, Er. Jakpou exhorted them to actively participate in the sanitation drive for the success of SBM.  

In his speech, Dr. Nicky informed that the Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) undertaken by District Initiative Towards Energy Efficient Kohima (DITEEK) will be launched on October 21 this year. The scheme will be implemented by District Administration in Kohima Town and Kohima Village in the first phase where subsidized items like LED, tube lights, fans and street lights will be provided. Dr. Kire also encouraged the public to avail various benefits which was highlighted by Adoption Committee Members and concerned department during the programme.  

DigiLocker, one of the key initiatives under the Digital India initiative aimed at eliminating the usage of physical documents and enabling sharing of e-documents across government agencies via a mechanism to verify “authenticity” of the documents online, was highlighted by Er JG Lorin Rengma, DIO (NIC), who informed that through the initiative residents can upload their own electronic documents and digitally sign them using the e-sign facility. Users will be required to type the registered Aadhaar card to log in and choose from two options for verification – One Time Password (OTP) and fingerprint verification. 10 MB data can be availed by the users which can be raised to 1GB over time.  

Informing the gathering of the activities of the ward, Atuo Kapfo, Chairman of Lower Agri Ward Council mentioned that waiting shed, SBI ATM-cum-public toilet and road repairs within the jurisdiction were being carried out with contribution from the residents under the supervision of the Adoption Committee, and further plans for renovation of council hall and white washing all over the colony are underway. Street lights and NRE solar street lights, placement of tampered wire has also been completed while certain seminars on mushroom making, detergent and dish wash soap and flower vase making were also conducted in the ward.
