
Call for bringing realistic transformation in lives of rural people

Nagaland today launched Pradhan Matri Awaas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G) here by Minister for Rural Development & REPA C.L. John. Launching the PMAY-G scheme, the Minister called for effective implementation of the programme for the benefit of the rural populace.
He said with a view to address the gap in rural housing and to fulfill the government’s commitment to provide housing for all by 2020, PMAY-G programme was launched by Union Government with effect from April 1, 2016 across the country.
This programme is not a new one but a revamped of IAY hosing scheme which is being implemented for quite some time.
Releasing a guideline of PMAY-G, the minister asked the officers to educate the VDBs for optimal and successful implementation of PMAY-G in the state. Under PMAY-G with an enhanced allocation of Rs. 1,30,000 for hilly areas alongwith additional Rs. 13,000 to be provided for construction of toilets under Swachh Bharat Mission and beneficiary to be provided daily wages of upto 90 to 95 days (Rs. 18,000) through MGNREGA totaling Rs. 1, 60,000 for state like Nagaland, he said.
He urged that proper care have to be taken by the department to see that all the components are meaningfully availed and judiciously utilized for the benefit of the people. The minister informed that rural development has always been the priority both for the Government of India and the state government to alleviate poverty in the rural areas and improve the living standard of the rural people.
“Housing being a basic human want and necessity, special focus and attention has been given by launching dedicated scheme specifically for providing houses in rural areas by successive government,” he reiterated. It should, he said, therefore, be our collective drive to ensure that the PMAY-G scheme is effectively implemented and maximum benefits derived from it.
Keeping in mind the need of inclusive and holistic development in the state within a stipulated time frame, the minister said the state government has also came up with a 2030 Vision Document by incorporating all spheres of development. “Towards this direction, I urge the officers to make full use of the various programmes being implemented by the department so that our people are developed at par with town dwellers,” the minister said.
Constant engagement and coordination among different stakeholders of rural development is a must to bring rapid tangible development, he added.
Further, the minister made a fervent appeal to all officers to deliver prompt and responsive public service to the best of their abilities. “Together let us strive to bring about realistic transformation in the lives of our rural people,” he urged.
Earlier, keynote address was delivered by rural development secretary Kelei Zeliang. The function was chaired by rural development director Metsubo Jamir while rural development joint director Imnukshila Jamir proposed vote of thanks.
