
DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 11 (MExN): Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Praveer Ranjan has taken over as the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
An officer of the 1993 batch of the IPS from the AGMUT cadre, Ranjan assumed charge on September 30, 2025. He has been on Central deputation since April 2024 and earlier served as Special Director General, heading the Airport Security sector of the CISF.
Ranjan has had a distinguished career of over 32 years, during which he held several key posts, including Special Commissioner (Crime & EOW) in Delhi Police, Deputy Inspector General in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and Director General of Police, Chandigarh (from August 2022 to March 2024), before joining CISF as Additional Director General.
An accomplished academic, Ranjan holds postgraduate degrees in History from Delhi University, Police Management from Osmania University, Public Management from the National University of Singapore and Harvard University, and an LL.M. from the National Law University, New Delhi.
A recipient of the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (2016) and the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service (2009), he becomes the 32nd Director General of the CISF.
At a ceremony held at the CISF Headquarters, Ranjan was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour and later interacted with senior officers of the Force. In his address, he emphasized modernization of operations, compassionate welfare measures, and transparency in administration.
He reiterated the Force’s commitment to implementing the directives of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Home Affairs to strengthen national security and institutional efficiency.
