Preliminary agreement doing rounds

DIMAPUR, Dec 19 (MExN): Any initial agreement which can be accepted must hold possibilities for future dialogue and negotiations, a senior NSCN (IM) leader told The Morung Express today and expounded that a preliminary agreement that offers 60-70% of the bargain but offering a scope into future deliberations is by any measure preferable to an agreement which offers 90% of the asking price without the possibility of future dialogue. “Any solution taken should not betray the aspiration of the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, chances of the collective leadership visiting Naga soil is now tilted towards an affirmative with officials in the top rung of the NSCN (I-M) favouring their return.

“They (the collective leadership) have to listen to the voice of the people for any real solution to emerge,” the official said. Meetings with civil society have to be undertaken, he added. The Naga leaders’ visit is also seen as essential in the bid to ‘revitalise’ and ‘regenerate’ the Naga movement. Muivah is also tipped to visit Naga areas in Manipur.

Dismissing rumours that the NSCN (I-M) may hold parleys with the states of Manipur, Arunachal and Assam, the source said negotiations are being held with India under whom the mentioned states fall.
