Present govt should pave way for people’s interest: NSCN (K)

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 9 (MExN): The NSCN (K) today expressed pain at the continued standoff between the Naga people and the Nagaland State Government over the Municipal Act.

A press note from the MIP of the NSCN (K) stated it is “highly pernicious on the part of the State Government to resort to violent repression resulting the deaths and injuries to many and even calling in the Indian Army to flag march against it’s own citizen’s democratic protest.”

“Quelling the mass uprising violently speaks volume of the quality of leadership displaying no regards to the sentiments, interest and welfare of the people,” it added.

The NSCK (K) said that the lengthy disruption of daily normal lives, destruction and mayhem “must have already convinced the State government to accept the fate and concede to the people’s voice.”

It stated that the incumbent government under no circumstances should compromise what little protection the Nagas have been afforded under “forcefully assimilated union without which the identity, culture and heritage of the Nagas not only is threatened but would forever be lost.”

It further noted that “to barter away the unique provision conceded by the Government of India to Nagaland State as obligated by the extraordinary historical and political situation for the sake of selfish gain by certain political party would never augur well with either the Naga people in general or the NSCN/GPRN in particular.”

The NSCN (K) viewed that the present DAN Government should “gracefully pave way for the people’s interest to prevail.”
