Present mode of political negotiation 'problematic': CCF, SCF Mokokchung

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 23 (MExN): The Concerned Citizens Forum (CCF) and Senior Citizens Forum (SCF), Mokokchung on Wednesday termed the manner in which the Government of India (GoI) is “dubiously handling the political negotiations as problematic for any logical conclusion.

In a joint press statement, the two organization voiced concern that after enduring 22 years of negotiations and over 100 talks between the GoI and the NSCN (IM), the present mode of handling the negotiation by dictating terms by way of imposing time frame of three months by the Interlocutor of Naga Peace Talks RN Ravi who also happens to be the Governor of Nagaland is a violation of what has been agreed upon as ‘without precondition.’

It reminded of the past seven decades of Naga struggle for independence which resulted into bloody conflict between the Nagas and the GoI, the many years and resources wasted and many precious lives that have laid down for the ‘just cause.’

After all these years of sacrifice, a window of opportunity for both India and Naga to come to a logical conclusion and begin a new relationship for mutual benefit and to promote genuine peace in the region is in the horizon.

However, looking at the present situation, the two organization expressed unease that there is “ponderous problems ahead, with many confusions and uncertainties.”

It also stated the creating war like situations in the state by proliferation of war machineries and using state centric organizations and trying to force a unilateral piecemeal solution is a complete breach of democratic norms. “This will not only create division among the Nagas but inflict deep wound and mistrust between Nagas and India,” it added.

It therefore stated that it would be in the best interest of all and to usher in a democratic process in letter and in spirit, the BJP government must stop playing divisive and nerve racking politics towards the Nagas, rather the GoI should demonstrate its maturity and democratic credentials and honor all the commitment that has been agreed upon between the NSCN (IM) and the Indian leaders.

It is the collective opinion and wishes of all the six Prime Ministers of India right from PV Narasimha Rao to the present Narendra Modi that, the Indo-Naga political problem be resolved through democratic process in all fairness, it stated.
