Charis High Academy, Chumukedima observed World Environment Day on June 5 by organising an inter-school competition based on the theme ‘Connecting People to Nature’. Ten schools from Chumukedima participated in the event.
The competition began with EAC, Sethekiema, Thejavizo Nakhro pressing forward the importance of a balanced natural environment. Underscoring the human-environment relationship, he said that it goes back to the earliest of times when humans depended on the forests for food and livelihood. However, today, he said that human pressure on the environment is exceeding the limit while citing how the advent of industrialisation has resulted in wanton exploitation of natural resources.
“We have come to a point where we are pushing the environment to its limit. But if we contribute and practice environment friendly attitude… there is hope.” The present generation, the students in particular, can take the lead and contribute to turn the hope of a balance natural environment into reality, he said.
