President NNC clarifies stand on ‘Agreed Position’

Dimapur, November 25 (MExN): The President of the Naga National Council (NNC), Thepushuyi Keyho, clarified today that he did not participate in the signing of the “Agreed Position” between the Government of India (GoI) and the Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs) on November 17, 2017.

“My decision not to sign the agreement stems from the fact that the ‘Agreed Position’ was against the sovereign rights of the Naga people,” he asserted in a clarification received here.

Keyho stated that while serving as Vice President of the NNC under General (Retired) TM Keyho and Brigadier (Retired) S Singnya, he was present during the discussions held on December 13, 2016, regarding the peace talks between the GoI and the WC, NNPGs.

“While I participated in the dialogue and deliberation processes, it is important to note that I did not take part in the signing of the Agreed Position between the GoI and the 7 NNPGs,” he clarified. “Therefore, it does not imply my endorsement or acceptance of the final agreement,” he added.

Keyho reaffirmed his commitment to the Naga cause, stating, “Having taken an oath of allegiance under the Yehzabo, I vow to uphold the mandate given to the NNC by the Naga people and stand by the Naga Plebiscite of May 16, 1951, for full sovereignty—nothing more, nothing less.”
